Equality

Principle – All New Zealanders should be respected equally and treated equally before the law. We oppose any laws which promote discrimination or grant privilege.

Each of us in unique and should be respected for who we are. We believe in a society united by our common goals not divided by our differences.

In particular, 5PM supports the Declaration of Equality as promoted by the Independent Constitutional Review Panel:

We declare that we New Zealanders of all backgrounds, having founded and developed our society in equality, fairness, and comradeship, oppose any laws which establish or promote racial distinction or division.

There shall be one law for all:

1 We reject references to the Treaty of Waitangi or its principles in any constitutional document.
2 We ask that such references be removed from all existing legislation.
3 We ask that race-based Parliamentary seats be abolished.
4 We ask that race-based representation on local bodies be abolished.
5 We ask that the Waitangi Tribunal be abolished.

Therefore in the interests of New Zealand we call on the members of the House of Representatives to implement the principles of this Declaration of Equality to ensure that all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law.
